BS GIG 07/07/12: CANAYA // EL SCHLONG // BEARS KILLING BEARS // SEVEN HEADED COBRA

CANAYA
Leeds groove metallers Canaya return to the ship's helm for a night of pure, adrenaline fueled music. Steadily chipping away at the UK's metal scene, they have built a solid undercurrent of buzz with their self-produced EP 'Alignment of Dying Planets' including a melee of live shows, some of which are attainable online; check this feed out hosted by eccentric rockers HIMSELF in an undisclosed venue....

The debut EP, 'Alignment Of Dying Planets' was released in 2010 to great reviews in Rocksound (8/10), Big Cheese (5/5) and received heavy rotation on Total Rock Radio.

'What the industry has it's sights on' - Metal Hammer

'Alignment Of Dying Planets' is twenty minutes of unremitting ferocity. It’s an aggressively potent EP, the kind of record that will have you smashing yourself across the temple with a hammer afterwards for relief.' - Szikora Press

'Combining a voice with the caustic power of Norma Jean with some seriously Mastodon-esque riffs, Canaya’s EP is a violent twenty-minute pole-axe to the temple.' - Heavy Blog Is Heavy

EL SCHLONG (nzl)
The first time this band has appeared on a BS bill, we are very excited to have someone play for us from so far afield (even if they do now live in the EU) .Before hearing their 2011 album "Time/Space" we had no idea what to expect with only the strangely titled idiom to go by. However, upon hearing them we were quickly snapped in by their freakishly diverse sound. Melting death, sludge and noise together with fragments of mariachi, psychedelia and disjointed math structures they certainly challenge the senses. However, with all this diversity, one cannot get away from the truly heavy sound they conjure.
In their own words... "Love it or hate it you will never forget El Schlong..."

"El Schlong are a fantastically insane band... I would strongly recommend fans of the obscure to investigate further." - METAL AS FUCK

"From staccato harmonic riffs to blistering fast plucking interspersed with slow melodic paraphrasing that can only be described as gothic brilliance, El Schlong’s musical ability within the metal spectrum is unparalleled." - MUZIC.NET

"This second album from El Schlong sees them continue with their twisted interpretation of musical genres with devastating consequences. This is heavy, progressive, funky and downright sublime in places." - SEA OF TRANQUILITY

BEARS KILLING BEARS
BKB are a breed of animalistic musicians that encapsulate a new wave of Leeds DIY ethic. With self released EP's, self-promoted gigs and a taste for sweat drenched impromptu house shows, BKB represent something new and exciting for the Leeds Rock and Hardcore scene. Their music can sometimes echo fragments of 80s thrash, 90s hardcore and modern punk rock... remind me of a melodic, slowed down Rorschach or a stripped down Fucked Up. Either way, makes for good moshing.

BKB are planning a release with label Best Enemies (Blacklisters, Double Muscle), who have taken them under their wing, so keep your ears to the ground.

SEVEN HEADED COBRA
SHC are back on board the spaceship with their riffs, heavy triplet encrusted beats, bigger riffs and lyrical content to make a budding Japanese film student living in the 50's interested in making monster B-movies blush. They create a head bopping kind of groove that satisfies the mind and breast of every individual that bares witness. Check their new recording of song 'Electric Mountain' on their bandcamp, its mint!
